Auntue sewing squad
American comedian and actress, Kristina Wong formed a team of volunteers to make masks during the coronavirus pandemic.
Kristina Wong is an American comedian known primarily for her work as a solo theater performer, performance artist, and actor. She identifies as a feminist and her work often tackles themes regarding race, sex, and privilege, often in conjunction with the Asian American experience.
At the beginning of the operation, Wong sewed solo and used pieces of fabric laying around her home to make face coverings. When requests for masks exceeded her ability to make them, Wong posted a call for sewing volunteers on Facebook, and soon launched the “Auntie Sewing Squad” Facebook group, which now has over 800 members across the country.
